There Is Hope For Halo Fans

It’s been a rough few years for Halo fans. Halo Infinite did not delivered on its initial content promises and its 10-year plan. Rumors of a full reboot of the series were also haunting fans for the past couple of years. In 2025, Halo Studios announced their switch to Unreal Engine and revealed glimpses of a future project, which, of course, looked a lot like Halo: Combat Evolved. This sparked further speculation about whether it was a remake or a reboot. Check out Luc’s HiddenXperia video for more details on the reports and the concept of a Halo reboot, and why it might be a bad idea. From erasing a tremendous amount of great lore, to the risk of Halo being treated with a Paramount-level of storytelling that could ruin the franchise completely.

A New Dawn

Halo CE

Thankfully, this rumor was finally proven wrong — or at least, in the end, Microsoft decided not to move forward with it. This past weekend at HCS, Halo Studios unveiled the next step in their new journey: Halo: Campaign Evolved. This remake of the first Halo will also be available to PlayStation players. With new leadership and many new developers, revisiting and studying the original Halo is the best approach to perfect the next entry and recapture what made the series great and unique. The remake will introduce new gameplay mechanics, along with additional campaign missions. These missions will explore events that take place before the Combat Evolved story, focusing on the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. New weapons and vehicle upgrades will also be included.

My Thoughts

Halo CE

Visually, the remake looks amazing. While I wasn’t a fan of the look of Halo: CE Anniversary, I absolutely loved Halo 2 Anniversary and its cutscenes. This remake looks like a playable versions of those cutscenes by Blur Studios. However, I’d like to see a bit more grittiness in the art style. There are too many clean, shiny elements in the demo. I’m hoping that gets toned down, allowing more fluorescent colors, like those in the aliens’ blood, to stand out. Personally, I’m not a big fan of the Campaign Evolved name. I was hoping for something like Halo: Combat Reclaimer or something along those lines, keeping the “Combat,” of course.

I don’t care much about the sprint element. However, I’ve always said that if sprint is implemented in Halo, then it should allow us to shoot while sprinting. Doom The Dark Ages proved that it is possible, and I believe it fits perfectly for Spartans and their agility. Overall, I am happy that a more accurate introduction to the series, besides the Halo CE Anniversary, will be available for new fans.

Results And Future

Other announcements were made at the event as well. The official name of The Weapon was revealed, along with details on upcoming Halo books, such as Edge of Dawn by Kelly Gay. In the esports scene, Shopify Rebellion claimed the championship. And while HCS won’t return in 2026, Halo Fest will be happening, featuring a concert and convention.

After a few tough years and radio silence, Halo fans finally have something to look forward to. The developers seem extremely talented and excited, not only about the remake, but also about the future of the franchise. Here’s hoping Microsoft gives the developers the creative freedom they need to give Halo a real chance again. The studio is also seeking feedback on the remake, so be sure to share your thoughts with them here
