Steam Deck players, rejoice! After a couple of years of asking Valve to allow downloads while the screen is off, the company has finally answered those requests. This update comes a few weeks after Valve also announced a new Gaming Calendar feature for Steam.
In this new Steam Deck update, players can now keep downloads active while the Deck’s screen is turned off. You can activate the feature in two different ways. First, when pressing the power button on top of the Deck, you’ll now see a prompt asking if you want to continue the download while the screen is off.

Additionally, this mode will activate automatically after an idle timeout. This feature is enabled automatically when the Deck is charging and can also be adjusted under Settings > Power.
The update is now available on the Steam Deck’s Beta and Preview channels. For more details, see Valve’s full post here. Valve is also asking for feedback, so be sure to share your thoughts in the comments.
