This Week In Deadlock: Ranked, Fan Animation, And PvE?

Welcome back, people from the Cursed Apple. It was a busy week for Deadlock and its community, receiving goodies from the community itself and the team at Valve. From the developers, a new update was added last week that improves the matchmaking experience for both players looking for a more casual time and those a more competitive game.

New Ranked Mode

Players can now choose between Standard Mode (unranked) and the new Ranked Mode introduced in this update. “Standard mode provides a lower-stakes way to play Deadlock with friends, without worrying about adjustments your Rank,” says the update’s notes. While the Ranked mode “gives players a way to queue up for more competitive games against similarly-skilled players with higher stakes. Each season you’ll be able to climb the Ranks and see how far you can go.”

Each Rank will have 6 Subranks (I – VI):

Obscurus (uncalibrated)
–
Initiate
Seeker
Acolyte
Sentinel
Mystic
Ritualist
Emissary
Oracle
–
Phantom
Ascendant
Eternus

To be eligible for Ranked play, players will need 60 Victories in Standard Mode. Additionally, 15 wins with three individual heroes are required to qualify as well. Ranked Mode will also have Seasons (Beta), with the first one available now until October 7. For more details on abandoning a Ranked Match and its Penalties, you can catch the full post here.

Heroes vs Patrons?

As with every update, it is now tradition for players to dig through the game files to search for any additional content. Content Creator Gabe Follower found a couple of new files that could hint at future content being added to the game. Some files include mentions of a Wardrobe in the Hideout, a Bar Area, Emotes, and PvE. This PvE, however, mentions CitadelStartPVEBotMatch, so it is unclear if these files are for a Bot version of a PvP mode or a new cooperative-only game mode.

Community Spotlight

The community spotlight this week belongs to That Gray Cartoon Pony, with the animation titled “Meet the Gargoyle.” This animation takes the voice lines found in the visual novel tracks that were present within the game files and transforms them into a “Meet the Team” style of animation from Team Fortress 2. Congrats to That Gray Cartoon Pony on a superb animation!
