The Commodore 64 is one of the most important pieces of hardware for PC enthusiasts and gamers alike. The influence it had on the 8-bit home computer industry is still discussed to this day. Today, Commodore continues its preservation efforts with new editions of the 64, such as the 64X PC, 64 Ultimate, and now the Commodore 77. The Commodore 77 is made in collaboration with game developer CD Projekt Red, specifically their Cyberpunk 2077 IP, and marks Commodore’s first-ever franchise hardware partnership.
The Commodore 77 is a special edition of the Commodore 64 Ultimate computer. It brings a design inspired by the world of Night City, such as a sleek metal plate, soft turquoise glow, and graffiti tags. However, designs are not the only feature related to Cyberpunk that this Commodore will bring; the Commodore 77 includes an original demo that expands the lore of the Cyberpunk universe. The demo will be available only in the Commodore 77 on an exclusive “Arasaka” cartridge inspired by the “shards” from Cyberpunk 2077.
Peri Fractic, President, CEO, and Chief Product Officer of Commodore, says that ” Commodore 64 owners have never needed a corporation’s permission to build something new on our hardware, and that’s very much the spirit of Cyberpunk 2077. We’re deeply honored that CD PROJEKT RED felt the same, and gave us the chance to play in their world. I have been a fan of the game since its release, and it was rewarding to learn in my discussions with their Joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, that he was a lifelong Commodore 64 fan in turn. For us both, this has been a collaboration where art imitates life, and in turn, life for the denizens of Night City now imitates that art. We hope they enjoy their new terminal.”
Other exclusive features the Commodore 77 includes are a Cyberpunk 2077-themed Commodore 77 BASIC 2.0 boot screen, new menu colors, and a custom neon power light. Also stickers, pins, collectible themed packaging, a custom Cyberpunk 2077 spiral-bound user guide packed with lore and Cyberpunk 2077-themed type-in BASIC programs, and more. The product is now available to pre-order for $377.00, with a ship date for February 2027.
