How to Find and Catch a Caterwauler in Final Fantasy XIV

If you have been grinding the Moogle Treasure Trove in Final Fantasy XIV, you might have encountered one of its fishing Minimog Challenges that requires you to catch a Caterwauler. This fish is a rare one, found only in a specific location. In this guide, I’ll give you its location and how to catch it.

Where to Find a Caterwauler

The Caterwauler can be found on Lower La Noscea, specifically near the cave and river to La Thagran Eastroad, coordinates X:24, Y:23.

How to Catch a Caterwauler

Before going to the cave and beginning your fishing adventure, make sure you are prepared for it. To catch a Caterwauler, you will need Moth Pupa bait, with the Versatile Lure as a secondary option. You will also need a Gathering rating of 290, so make sure your gear is high enough to catch a fish of this rating; otherwise, the fish will escape at every catch.

When you are ready, head to the cave and begin fishing. It might take you multiple tries to catch a Caterwauler, especially since it is a fish with a ferocious bite (!!!). Use the fisher’s abilities such as Surface Slap or Chum for lower-level fishers. There are no weather or time-of-day requirements for catching this fish; you can give it a go at any time.

After you catch the Caterwauler, make sure to go to the Mogpendium to claim the rewards, which are ten Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy and one Uolon Horn Token.

Happy fishing!
