After some delays and the community begging Yoshi for this update, the City Never Sleeps major update has been released for Deadlock. This one brings a lot to the Cursed Apple, from visual updates to The Broker, new Heroes, and more.
First of all, let’s meet the new Heroes:
- Nurse Harow: described as Strict, Terrifying, Savior.
- Solomon: Strategist, Focused, Checkmate.
- Deadman Danny: Reckless, High-Flying, Explosive
- Baba, a Cackling: Beady, Hexing
- Violet: Ambitious, Nimble, Creative
- Rat King (yes, he’s real): Scrappy, Regal, Tenacious
In addition to all the new Heroes, it is impossible to ignore the new visual of the map. The city is clearly now closer than ever to the art style and themes the team at Valve is going for. This includes the noir mix with sci-fi and neon lights. ” Our team has been incredibly happy and surprised with how passionate and supportive the community has been the past couple of years; every day someone shares something cool they’ve seen from the community with the rest of the team, and we are thankful for the constant support and useful feedback, despite the game being unfinished,” reads the post from the team.

This update took more time than expected, since it brings fixes to older parts of the game, such as unfinished character looks and quality-of-life fixes. “After the Old Gods New Blood update, we felt that there was still a good amount of work we wanted to do on the core game itself before we moved onto more polish phases of the game development (like updating older hero artwork). Unlike previous updates where our efforts were more singularly focused on the key parts of that update, this year we’ve been working on several different things in parallel. A good number of those are things you can see in today’s update,” continues the post.
Visuals are not the only changes to the map; new areas are available, like a theater with puppet-like NPCs, and a Chinatown district with new creatures as well. The Broker is a new vendor that brings corrupted items to sell, but with a twist and for a limited time. HUD updates include new Healthbars, improved Ally Indicators, and more.
